Kukulkán Pyramid at Chichén-Itzá
Sightseeing in Yucatán picture - In 1931, archaeologists tunneled into the base of the pyramid to see if there were any earlier structures beneath. They discovered a stone box which contained bones, flint daggers, jade and turquoise, and beyond, a flight of steps which yielded a beautifully preserved statue of Chac Mool and a red-painted effigy of a jaguar with eyes of jade and teeth of flint.
