Mountain Kittentail
Scenery in Portland picture - Synthyris missurica. "Native to moist shady places in the nortthwestern states, blooms in early spring (depending on elevation). A regal lavender-blue raceme of tiny cup-shaped flowers from 4 to 20 in. tall, with 2 long thin stamens and one pistle giving each blossom a 'bristle' effect." Identification by Bob Lindemeyer, Kirkland, WA, botanist extraordinaire.
