Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Park
On the 5th of April 2003 we visited Fountains Abbey and the Studley Royal Water Gardens The weather was dull and cloudy but quite warm for the time of year. The Abbey and Gardens are about 3 miles from Ripon Nth. Yorkshire and are owned by The National Trust and English Heritage and is a World Heritage Site. The Photos are mainly of the Abbey, which is a spectacular ruin of a 12th-century Cistercian abbey. The place is organised so that you can wander at will around the area and follow paths that take you on a circular tour of the abbey, monastic watermill and one of the best surviving examples of a Georgian water garden. A deer park is to be found near the St. Mary's Church, although on my visit they were a long way off and lack of time did not permit a closer look. I will return again to see the herd. Well worth a visit.
