HMS Barham photographed from a "Stringbag" Fairey Swordfish of 701 Squadron. This biplane was launched from the "X" turret, seen here pointing to sea, using a cordite charge. The crane is at the ready, to hoist it back into position. The Swordfish carried a torpedo and it's main use was as a submarine spotter.
