The memorial is to be installed in his home village of St. Combs. He bought a half acre in Aviemore behind the railway station and constructed 'Hame'. Here he established a small-scale sculpture garden but two consecutive years of bad flooding by the River Spey compelled him to seek an alternative. By this time Frank was carving whole, wind-blown trees and had completed some of his best works; The Two Patriots (commemorating his brother, killed when a torpedo sunk HMS Barham, 25th Nov 1941), The Walker, and The Man's The Gowd. He had formed an alliance with the local Forestry Commission manager at Inshriach Forest who gave Frank trees to carve on the proviso that they remain in the forest as part of the tourist trail. When Frank discovered the derelict six acre Colleonard Nursery near Banff he built a more modest house, cleared the site, and moved in all his monumental works. The Colleonard Sculpture Garden was open and now receives over six thousand visitors every year.
