My late father, Douglas "Ginger" Lynd, was convinced that this is a photo of his being rescued by HMS Hotspur. It comes from the book "Into the Blue" by Captain T.D. Herrick DSC* RN, the captain of Hotspur at the time, which book was published only in 1997. You cannot imagine my father's emotions at coming across this photograph, some sixty years after the event! In the interests of accuracy, however, it needs to be added that Captain Herrick believes it to be a photo of a German being rescued in a quite separate incident.
