<noembed><nolayer><div style="position:absolute; left:0; top:-100; display:none;"> A concentration dial or range clock<br> picture - A second one can also be seen in front of the gunnery director on top of her foretop. Usually there is a single face marked up from (say) 0 to 12, with two hands, one of which normally has either a circular or solid &#34;lollipop&#34; on the end. One hand records the range to the selected target in thousands of yards, while the other records the balance of the range in hundreds of yards. The ship controlling the gunnery of the battle line would indicate the targetting of its guns visually to the other ships in the line by adjusting its dials, salvo by salvo. The next ship in the line would read this data visually between its salvos and adjust its gunnery accordingly, and the others would do likewise, to &#34;concentrate&#34; the fire of the entire battle line onto a particular target. In the variation seen in this photograph, each clock face has a single hand, the white dial registering hundreds of yards, and the dark dial registering thousands. JCS </div></nolayer></noembed>
