Not Barham but Malaya
picture - Despite the legend on the photograph, this is HMS Malaya, after her second between-the-wars refit (Oct 1934 to Dec 1936), and before her aircraft were landed due to the advances in radar in WWII (ie as in the line drawing also on this page - see my other email). In this photo, her hangers are clearly visible, her enormous cranes are both deployed ready for use, and she also has "neutrality stripes" on "B" turret, dating this photo to the period of the Spanish Civil War. Following her 1934-36 refit, Malaya returned to the Mediterranean in Dec 1936, and remained in the Med until the outbreak of war in 1939 - she is seen here in typical light grey Mediterranean livery.
