Your site has provoked childhood memories of 1941 when she was in Durban for repairs. I was told that she'd been torpedoed in the North Atlantic and came to Durban for repairs before rejoining the fleet. I've got this photo signed by crew members Sgt WH Harris RM, Cpl EAW Sullivan RM and Sgt JV Christopher RM on 29 July 1941 and given to my mother. My grandfather was on the bay fishing when she entered port and he later met the 3 men at the local pub, then brought them home. I was told that all 3 died with her but your records show that Sullivan survived, though I am sure he must have died by now. Despite being only three years old at the time I remember being in the company of the 3 men. My grandparents often entertained RN men from ships in the port at their spacious home and when Barham was in port I remember accompanying my mother when she showed the sailors around the city. I thought you might be interested in these memories. Clive Talbot
