Quisiera entender porque algunos cubanos (nueva generacion) hablan tan bien de cuba y no divulgan o aceptan las realidades de su país. Es importante aceptar lo lindo lo feo lo bueno y lo malo. Conosco a unos que vivieron hasta hace poco de Cuba y se molestan si le pregunto de las realidades como la escasez y lo reprimido que esta el pueblo. Defienden a Cuba en particular y no a los cubanos, no se si esta generacion ya esta acostumbrada a vivir en este sistema o si les da pena hablar la realidad de lo que sucede. Por mi parte de mi pais yo estoy dispuesta de divilguar desde lo mas bueno que tiene y lo mas malo o injusto a mi criterio, y acepto dichas realidades. si alguien sabe porque estas personas no pueden aceptar sus realidades que me expliquen porfavor.

Jamas he hablado mierda de Cuba como tu dices ni apoyado a los EUA. Si he criticado a la dictadura castrista pero no a Cuba. Son cosas muy diferentes. Al igual que "revolucion" significa algo nuevo, creativo y diferente no una dictadura de un decrepito tirano por mas de 50 anos. De Posada Carriles creo que se deben mostrar pruebas de sus supuestos delitos para poder encausarlo. En los EUA las leyes se cumplen, esto no es como en el totalitarismo que los tribunales hacen lo que quiera el dictador. Si existen pruebas pues entonces que se quede en la carcel pero si no hay que soltarlo por ley. No estoy de acuerdo con la ley de ajuste cubano, creo que le hace mas bien a Castro que dano. Le quita la presion interna y la gente se va en ves de rebelarse. Ya te hable de tus temas, cuando vas a hablar de las fotos que son el tema del articulo?

Miquel, Lo siento pero en vez de comentar sobre el porque existen estas condiciones en cuba sigues con la misma cantaleta de justificarlo todo y cambiar el tema. Este es un articulo sobre Cuba. En Haiti, en Sudan y en muchisimos otros paises la situacion es mucho peor que en Cuba y EUA pero yo no me la paso hablando de esos paises aqui porque ese no es el objetivo de mi articulo. Mi interes es ayudar a mis hermanos en la isla denunciando los desmanes de la dictadura castrista. Si tu quieres hablar sobre las fotos y sobre la horrible situacion en Cuba en mi articulo y exponer tu punto de vista puedes hacerlo pero si tu interes es hablar mal de otros paises te sugiero que vayas a paginas que se dediquen a ellos o tu mismo saques las fotos esas de las que tanto hablas pero que no ensenas nunca. Los comentarios de otro temas los quitare de mi articulo porque ocupan espacio util que otros pueden aprovechar en discusiones sobre el tema cubano.

I really hate the comments from people who have enyojed democracy and prosperity all their lives and then go to Cuba for tourism as if it were a Zoo of people who deserve less than animals. Then they say that pictures like mine can be taken anywhere in the US (which I haven't seen yet in two years living in there, just a few lazy bums and drug addicts that eat and dress better than my family in Cuba) and so on as if that justifies the 50 year dictatorship, the killings, the political prisoners, lack of freedom of religion, expresion, separation of families etc etc. To those people I give the same medicine totalitarian dictatorships gives its subjects INTERNET CENSORSHIP. I hope you enjoy it as much as Gillermo Farinas who was just beat up and imprisoned for trying to access the network. La razon por la que no me acordaba que lo que se usa es hierbabuena es porque nunca pude tomarme ningun mojito en Cuba. Eso solo lo pueden hacer los extranjeros y los chivatones. Ahora solo tomo Cubalibres. Tampoco conocia a Celia Cruz, Willy Chirino, Cachao ni a todos los grandes artistas cubanos que andan por el mundo. Triste no? Ahora si me colmaron la paciencia. Decir que lo que pasa en Cuba es culpa de los EUA es como tapar el sol con un dedo para seguirle el juego a la dictadura que culpa su robo e ineficiencia en el vecino del norte. El unico ignorante es quien dijo eso que ni es Cubano ni conoce lo que pasa en Cuba. Es verdad que el embargo a afectado la economia de cuba pero esa no es la razon por la cual el pais esta destruido moral y economicamente. En Cuba no hay internet porque el gobierno la controla, al igual que el acceso a los hoteles, a los telefonos mobiles y otro million de cosas que son ilegales para los Cubanos, a no ser que ya se hayan ido de su pais y regresen al mismo con dolares.

El "bienestar" que Cuba gozo en los años 90 se debio en gran parte a los subsidios de la Union Sovietica.

El fracaso del sistema socialista se debe a que Lenin tergiverso a Marx e impuso el sistema a fuerza de armas cuando el marxismo dice que el socialismo sera producto de una transicion ESPONTANEA a partir del capitalismo desarrollado.

El mundo probablemente sera socialista dentro de varios cientos de años.

Cuba no es socialista y su sistema ditactorial esta condenado al fracaso.

Hello,

Here is a link to a popular travel forum about Cuba. Many of the travelers are political pilgrims to Castro's plantation but others are just ignorant of the intense oppression of the Cuban people by Castro's Cadre of thugs. I have posted the link to Myself's web page in discussions on this forum of photography in Cuba. I think that this opens some eyes of those whose tourist money is going into Castros pocket.

Myself's photos are great to raise the awareness of those who dont know about the grinding poverty of the Cuban people and realize that it is a direct result of the Castro Thug Cadre looting the country for personal gain.

I suggest that others casually post Myself's photos on this forum especially those who speak Spanish to counter the Castro Sycophants that are active here.

Bueno, yo nací en Matanzas y estuve solo 45 días antes de que mi familia emigrara a los EEUU. En si no tengo recuerdos personales de lo que una vez fue Cuba, pero me crié entre personas que recordaban con nostalgia los tiempos magníficos de la Cuba de ayer y que a la vez de contar cosas de aquel entonces cambiaban para hacer cuentos de todas las dificultades que pasaron desde el 1959 hasta el año 1970 que nos fuimos. Al ver las imágenes de esos ancianos mendigando por las calles me duele en el alma porque esos pudieron haber sido mis abuelos o mis familiares y todavía, con parte de mi familia que aun queda ahi, cabe la posibilidad que les toque a ellos tener que llegar a ese punto. Del punto de vista político entiendo el porque (hasta cierto nivel) del embargo, pero al ver las necesidades del pueblo Cubano, no me cabe en la cabeza. Dios quiera que todo cambie pronto y que Cuba vuelva a ser el paraíso que era.

Parece mentira que aun queden personas que esten de acuerdo con el govierno Cubano y que siguen culpando al los EEUU de todo lo que pasa alla. Si hay cubanos que van a los hoteles de gratis es por una de dos razones, o son intimos del partido o tienen la suerte de trabajar en eso, despues de haber estudiado una carrera, para poder sobrevivir con lo que los turistas dejan como propina. Tu sabes muy bien que los cubanos no pueden entrar a los hoteles ni a los lugares turisticos. Puedes ver este apartheid turistico en mis fotos www.nuestracubalibre.com. Los banos, las tiendas, la comida, las playas, etc son de tercera categoria para los cubanos. A no ser las jineteras que le pagan a los policias y los chivatones como tu que van a ponerle microfonos y camaras a los extranjeros para chantajearlos despues, nadie mas puede entrar a los lugares de turismo. Todo se sabe, no creas que ustedes van a seguir gozando por siempre. The difference: there's no hope for these people and no other Latin American country has been so badly mismanaged. Castro inherited a country with a solid economy and infrastructure unlike other basket cases. La Realidad
Estas imagenes son conmovedoras. Yo vivi esa realidad por 17 años, pero es tan dificil describir lo que el pueblo cubano tiene que sufrir diariamente a una persona que nunca ha pasado por esa situacion. Estas fotos no necesitan palabras, yo se las he enseñado a todos en mi trabajo y se quedan con la boca abierta, yo se que se les hace dificil creer lo que ven. Recuerdo a la Cuba de ayer y no puedo menos que sentirme asqueado y avergonzado por lo que veo en las fotos. Al mismo tiempo me pregunto: En donde estan los cubanos????? Porque permiten esto????? Dear Visitor. A photo in my opinion, is the result of an image captured by a camera that denote simply a reality fact as long as it hasnt been modified by any software available today in the market. It could be interpreted in many different ways, but still the truth remain regardless the opinion of the observer, we cant change the fact that the images is immortalizing the moment when it was taken. It is real, it is there, it is the real Cuba as it is seeing by the artist in this case. I dont believe anyone was asked to pose for the picture, I do not believe a Camello was intentionally parked by the group of people, or a building was destroyed just to capture it with the lens; it is real, it is happening. It is important to see it. It could make you feel angry or sad, or it could make you think something is going on beyond what you were aware. Guevara ha sido vilipendiado por quienes lo acusan de formar parte de los experimentos más cuestionados del gobierno de La Habana. Reinaldo Arenas, por ejemplo, en su libro Antes que Anochezca lo describió como una loca regia. Ernesto Mestre, otro escritor de origen cubano, dice que prepara para una de sus novelas un personaje basado en Guevara y se refiere a él como que el gran amigo de Castro es una gran loca. Leí un artículo en Vanity Fair donde le preguntaron a Castro si Guevara es gay. Y él dijo, de ninguna manera es Alfredo Guevara gay.

Apenas llegado al poder, el barbudo le encargó a Alfredo Guevara (que nada tiene que ver con el Ché) crear el Instituto Cubano de Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC). En estos años en el poder, ha sido director de la Cinemateca de Cuba, del Grupo de Experimentación Sonora, Viceministro de Cultura, Embajador y Consejero Cultural en la UNESCO, entre otros muchos cargos.

Guevara entregó dinero para filmar Guantanamera, una película de Tomás Gutiérrez Alea (Fresa y Chocolate). Cuando la oficialidad asistió al estreno de la historia, pidieron sangre. La película arremetió contra la burocracia en el país mientras contaba las peripecias de una familia para trasladar y enterrar un cadáver. Hubo reuniones y búsqueda de culpables. Por orden del Partido Comunista se permitió que la película fuera proyectada sólo dos días en cada provincia y retirada de la cartelera.

Here's some nuance for your next statement: Instead of comparing Cuba to other countries, why don't you compare it to its past. If we live and evolve in this world through progress, than please explain to me how could anyone opt, as you have, to live in a society that has de-evolved, through it's dictator's corruption, into the oppressed state that it is today?

Somos pobres, pero limpios. (we are poor but clean). Is a common maxim that you hear in Cuban families. And if this is what you witnessed then realize that you witnessed how Castro can take everything away from his country, his people, his own family, and yet not take away Cuban dignity.

This probably isn't the place for a nuanced opinion about Cuba, but I'll post mine for anyone who's interested.

I visited Cuba early in 2002 without any delusions about Castro. Edible food was in short supply, goods lacking everywhere except in dollar stores, and Cubans were very discontent with the country's stagnation.

That said, I saw no abject poverty like I've seen elsewhere in Latin America. Truth be told, I'd rather be poor in Cuba than almost anywhere else in the hemisphere. Given the choice between a Rio de Janeiro favela and the tedium of life in Havana, I'd choose the latter in a second.

The purpose of my photos is to show the world what real Cubans see, if someone wants to see what tourists are guided to see and what the government of Cuba wants people to see there are thousands of sites featuring pictures of Varadero, Key Coco, Guardalavaca etc. full of smiling cheap Mulattas. It is not my intention either to establish a comparison with the US. There are millions of free press sites describing whats going on in the US too. Attributing Cubas economic failure to the US embargo is something typical of the people who know nothing about Cuba (especially those who dont live in Cuba). Those who didnt live the times when resources came pouring down from CAME (mainly from the USSR while the Russian people was facing increasing shortages). Instead of developing the country the government lavishly wasted them backing up terrorists abroad and in Angolas war while the people pretended to work in Cuba and enjoyed the bonanza.

Then came the Special Period when the bubble exploded and the ants denied winter food to the lazy grasshopper. Cuba stayed afloat by borrowing money (immersing the Country in insurmountable debts), opening the country to foreign currency, the US dollar in particular, and selling the country as a tropical paradise where sex is cheapest and drugs are protected by government officials. Today Cuba is closing again, thanks to Chavezs oil pouring down on Cuba (adding to the debt), but that oil is again not being used for the country or to spare the people of the unbearable frequent blackouts. Fidel is selling it abroad and pocketing it in his own accounts, together with the money that comes from money laundering, drugs and tourism. Only out of utter ignorance can come the remarks of people who think that Cubas economic failure has to do with the US embargo. CMON, open your eyes once and for all.

I can only wish that I had been able to view this site back in 2000, when he was in office. 2000 was when Clinton's administration worked so fervently to send Elian Gonzalez back to Cuba, ultimately at the threat of their guns. They justified their actions by saying that the boy's father wanted him back in Cuba. This father was actually a man who I am sure would have swiftly been threatened by Castro's guns if he had said otherwise. The entire course of the Clinton policy was simply to appease Castro, because the Clinton people were mostly socialist Castro sympathizers who wished to curry his favor.

Thank you for your pictures of the real Cuba. They were all so very telling, in regards to the true results of Fidel Castro's "revolution". They also greatly explain as to why some Cubans risk everything to float their way on up to Florida in makeshift boats and rafts over shark-infested waters.

I now can only wonder what all of South America would look like today if Castro lackey Che Guevara had succeeded with his dream of "liberating" it.

I am totally shocked by these photos. I have been working has a Travel Agent for many years but I have only travelled to Cuba one time on an escorted Travel Familizarition Trip. I am back in shcool now and decided to do my Term Paper on Cuba. These pictures are so sad, I feel I have been mislead about Cuba for many years. The Travel Industy sould know better.

Es que son caraduras, esto se ve hasta en USA, o sera que no han visitado las zonas abandonadas de las ciudades estadounidenses que le abren paso a los sitios de moda del momento. Lo demas queda abandonado y presentan mal o nulo mantenimiento.l

Que sera de un pais sitiado por mas de 40 años, que verguenza para los norteamericanos que han propiciado eso.

Es de hacer notar que aunque hay mal mantenimiento, se ve que los sitios estan limpios, hay conciencia en el ciudadano de a pie.

I have used your images before in several of my articles. Thank you myself for exposing in color the deep dark under belly of Castro's horrible dicatorship of our country. These images hurt not because they're the slums of Cuba, or the non-tourist areas, but because these images ARE CUBA: the product of one man's evil and greedy opression that the whole world refuses to acknowledge. Thank you for the photos of your country. A month or so ago another site posted photos inside a Cuban hospital that were absolutely horrifying. However, I must tell you that in viewing your photos I was reminded of many places I have had to inspect in Los Angeles! I used to be a property appraiser and I worked on hundreds of apartment buildings. I had a male assistant that was so freaked out by the conditions he saw that he had to wait in the car and he quit on the way back to the office. One thing that I did notice is that the streets seem relatively clean, no litter. In poor sections of American cities the streets are filthy. This says much more about the people living there than the government but, I did find that interesting.

Thanks a lot for your comment on my pictures. I agree with most of what you are saying in your comment. However I don't think that the contrast capitalism - communism is relevant here. The real contrast in today's world is tyranny - democracy either in a "communist" or "capitalist" country if such countries really exist as such. I've lived in Cuba all my life and can tell you that in Cuba there is no communism at all. It's only a facade shown to the world by the government. Totalitarianism would best describe what's in my country. Thanks again for your interest in my country. I prefer to remain anonymous.

Thank you for the reality check. Most postings (like mine) are from vacation in nice places, showing the beauty of the world. But that is very misleading as the ugly-side of human environments is more common. Your pictures show that side bluntly. It always strikes me that communism and capitalism can both fail miserably to provide basic human security, health, and dignity to the poor. This seems most pronounced in the exploding cities in "developing" countries (by the way why do we say developing when many are actually regressing on a relative scale?). This problem is just getting worse as these cities are swarmed with immigrants fro rural areas. Last year I believe the earth passed a momentous milestone that was barely noted. For the first time ever more people live in cities than rural areas. Services and opportunties can not keep up.
