17th century, timber framed gate house on the right and the 13th centure south tower on the left (the oldest part of the castle still standing). In the latter part of the 17th century the timber-framed gatehouse was built to replace the 13th century entrance. Following this period the castle declined rather than was ruined. The moat dried up and the most of the outer wall disappeared.
