We visited Gibside on the 12 April 2003. The Estate was formerly owned by the The Queen Mothers family the Bowes-Lyons and is one of the North of Englands finest lanscapes much of which is classed as SSSI, a "forest garden" which is currently under reconstruction and embracing many miles of riverside and forest walks. There are several outstanding buildings, including a Palladian Chapel. Column of Liberty and others awating restoration. The National Trust now owns and manages the estate and are supported by the 'Friends
