Gibside

We visited Gibside on the 12 April 2003. The Estate was formerly owned by the The Queen Mothers family the Bowes-Lyons and is one of the North of Englands finest lanscapes much of which is classed as SSSI, a "forest garden" which is currently under reconstruction and embracing many miles of riverside and forest walks. There are several outstanding buildings, including a Palladian Chapel. Column of Liberty and others awating restoration. Hello Fred, very interesting photo reportage from Gibside. Your commentaries under each beautifully captured image are of great importance. It is sad to learn that even British government 50 years ago forced owners to such drastic actions as removing the roof to avoid paying taxes. My hope and best wishes are to local society that would continue and finish their well-intentioned project. I must have missed this area while traveling across your charming country during the 70s! It is such a big contrast to continental Europe, devastated by so many wars on their own land and in some regions of UK; I almost felt that I moved to the untouched history. Where is Gibside?
Hi Jody- Gibside in the North east of England near to Gateshead/ Newcastle Upon Tyne. Each summer a series of open air concerts takes place accompanied by fireworks. I've been for 6 years now with only 1 wash-out (last year!) when the classical concert was ruined by the weather!

Hi Fred Lovely... I missed this one, what a shame to let it go to ruin hey? Glad to see someone is looking after it now. Where is Gibside? I wonder if it is near anywhere I have been. There is so much to see in you country, I just love it.
