This statue of Poland's most revered composer stands in a place of honor in Lazienzki Park. After the outbreak of World War II and the brutal German invasion, Chopin's music became illegal. People were sent to Auschwitz concentration camp for playing Chopin's music. This was the first monument to be torn down by the Germans ; it was reconstructed after the war.
