Pereslavl-Zalessky is one of the ancient cities of central Russia. It is located halfway between Moscow and Yaroslavl, about 130 km North-East of Moscow on the bank of Pleshcheevo Lake.

Pereslavl-Zalessky was founded in 1152 by Prince Yury Dolgoruky together with the foundation of Dmitrov and Yuriev-Polsky. The place for the future town was chosen in the vale near the river called Trubezh not far from its confluence with the Lake Kleshino (now Pleshcheyevo).
