My first experiences of Cambodia were not good. I left Lao, handed my 60c bottle of Vietnamese vodka that I had carted round in my bag since Dien Bien Phu (5 weeks earlier) to the grateful Lao border guards, slyly avoiding the $5 "border charge" (which doesn't exist of course - it goes straight to the pocket of the guards themselves). This was fine for me though.
