A date gone horribly wrong left me stranded in Santa Barbara. I had no car - but I was armed with the essentials to make the best of it: good walking shoes, a camera, $300 and a good sense of humor. Santa Barbara is great place to be stranded. Most everything worth seeing is within walking distance. There's an Amtrak station smack in the heart of town - and the rates are unbeatable.
