The town of Mexican Hat gets its name from the sombrero-like formation just outside of town. Little more than a wide spot on the road where US 163 crosses the San Juan River as it leaves the Navajo Nation, Mexican Hat is well situated for exploring the sites of the southeastern corner of Utah. I spent three nights here during my 2004 Utah/desert southwest trip.
