Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is a pretty desert hiking area located on the western edge of Las Vegas. When flying into the city, I saw a red rock outcropping and figured that the more spectacular scenery must have been out the other window. Turns out that there's just the one red rock outcropping, and much of the park provides views of that outcropping. Having just come from Utah, at first I was a bit disappointed, but I soon took the park for what it is - a great place for several short or longer desert ... (more)
