Louisville Kentucky is the home of America's oldest continuously held horse race, the Kentucky Derby, which takes place every year on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs.
Louisville was named after Louis XVI of France and was first permanently settled in 1778. It's growth into a city was a result in America's westward expansion.
