Patio de las Escuelas Menores
Sightseeing in Spain picture - The Minor Schools were built in 1428, and they house the patio seen in this picture, of great simplicity and purity. They form a monument of typical Salmantine flavor. The façade of this building is of Plateresque style, more rudimentary than the Universitys. The patio was imitated in others around the city. The banisters which characterize it are of exquisite Baroque identity. Its entrance is made up of two equilateral arches resting over a column of Corinthian volute. In its superior part are three imperial shields, representing the power of the Emperor Charles V. The University archives, administration, and conference chamber are located here in the Escuelas Menores.
