Both the church and the seminary were the initiative of Margaret of Austria, wife of Philip III, in an attempt to make reparations to the Society of Jesus for the wrong done to its founder, St. Ignatius Loyola, by his imprisonment in Salamanca at the hands of the Dominicans. The towers, designed by Garc&#237;a Qui&#241;ones, somewhat distort the fa&#231;ade&#39;s otherwise primitive air. The assembly was constructed by initiative of Felipe III and his wife Margarita de Austria for the school of Compa&#241;ia de Jesus. The work was initiated the 12th of November of 1617 and culminated in 1754. The building is one of the most beautiful and huge monuments of Baroque architecture. </div></nolayer></noembed>
