Roman Bridge across the River Tormes
Sightseeing in Spain picture - On "El Puente Romano", only the first 15 arches nearest to the city are original, the remainder having been swept away by the flood of 1626. The Roman Bridge comprised part of the old Silver Road that united Mérida with Astorga. Only the fifteen arcs closer to the city are Roman, made in the times of Trajano, in 1st century A.D. (year 89). They are made of rustic granite ashalar masonry and seated on pillars with cutwaters directed against the river´s flow.
