King Sumoni, Dushanbe<br> Tajikistan picture - The statue of King Sumoni celebrates the 9th Century king who's empire and influence extended well beyond the current borders of Tajikistan. Known as an enlightened ruler, he is said to have promoted the higher qualities and responsibilities of the state as well as of the individual. These lofty qualities are also stated to be the goals of the present government (though some disagree). The Sumoni statue takes the place of the former Lenin statue, taken down about three years ago.
