Founded on Christmas Day in 1779, Nashville Tennessee was named after Francis Nash, a Revolutionary War general. It became the permanent capital of the state in 1843, after being moved back and forth between Knoxville, Nashville, and Murfreesboro.
While insurance, banking, printing, and tourism are important to the city's ecomony, Music City USA is best known for being the Home of Country Music and the Grand Ole Opry.
