MARLBOROUGH is reputedly the resting place of Merlin, King Arthur's sorcerer, and today it is still a magical place, attracting tens of thousands of visitors a year. According to folklore, the mound in the grounds of the town's famous public school is where Merlin is buried, although archaeologists claim it is a Neolithic monument of the same period as Silbury Hill.
