The road from Leh in Ladakh to Manali in Himachal Pradesh, crosses the Himalayas from north to south. It is one of the most exciting and remote roads of the world, and certainly highest. The road leads over five high mountain passes, two of then higher than 5000 meters. The scenery changes from dry barren into lush green. It took me two days to cover this distance in 1997.
