Happy birthday!!
Hello Wendy - I didn't manage to leave a message on your birthday itself, but I hope you had a lovely one - I was thinking of you. I celebrated my 40th with a big party in your garden, and all my family and friends were deeply impressed with the garden. (Don't worry - I drummed in the stuff about the drainage!!) I expect you will be disgusted, as I know it's not your thing, but Harry and I got engaged on my birthday too, so it was quite a big celebration - the champagne had to be cooled in the bath! Hope your ole legs are bearing up better in the new boots - good luck and best wishes, Vivien and Harry

No picture of us all at HCN!!! I will have to have words with the editor!!! Hope you are dry now and joie de vivre is back in force. I go to Mongolia on July 17 so expect no news for a wee while------------sunflowers now approx one hundred and twenty---wait for it----millimetres!!!! Not too tall but they are happy. You do know about these waterproof socks you can buy don't you Wendy?? Blimey, I have just realised it's your BIRTHDAY TODAY. WOW, hope you are having a lovely day off with cakes, seabrooks, asparagus tips and fresh salad and wild raspberries (I found some of the latter near Broughton last week so keep an eye out). I am in the office staring out of the window onto a dull car park and thinking how lucky you are to be doing what you are doing!!! I want to go to Ardnamurchan too----------but, you can't do everything. Lots of love to you both, Bill.

My aren't you doing well! It will soon be time to start to gather the ingredients for thr homecoming Chocolate log! Visited Pam at Soudley last week.. she is thriving. Judith is quite well at the moment and is very spunky as you would imagine! Lynn damaged leg during leap up corridor or some such and is on crutches. Marion is as ever, just wonderful. Waved you off at an ungodly hour in Dufton this morning, in the SUNSHINE!! hoping that the weather forecast was wrong! But alas not, and I guess you got very wet somewhere around Cross Fell - not a good place to be getting wet. We felt lots of sympathy for you as we put the kettle on for another cuppa in the little red van. Now I'm at home in Millom, Bill's in a hotel in Silloth (off hunting toads again) and we very much hope you are snug and dry in a B&B in the region of Alston. It was a super day out yesterday - legs a bit tired though after walking those couuple of miles to meet you! Good luck and best wishes from us both for the rest of the trip.

Hello Everybody, We're in Middleton in Teesdale, about half way up the Pennine Way. We're both into our second pair of boots but are having to put up with the original legs! It rained yesterday for the first time in weeks and Wendy wanted to go home, sit on the cat with the telly on her lap and watch the sofa. Today the sun is shining and we're off to the WI coffee morning to sample the cakes, so all is well with the world. Best wishes to you all.

Garden doing well
Hello both Had a lovely evening with Duncan on Sunday, and a meal down at Ye Hostelrie. Garden is doing well - plenty of rhubarb for workmates, (and us!) lots of gooseberry jam, and strawberries, raspberries and b'currants on way! Phil, you are obviously using your digital camera, but how are you uploading the pictures to the Web? Have been trying to figure it out and it has been bugging me. Looks like you are having pretty reasonable weather. It has poured here for the last two months. Kids are off school now, As is myself, and S quit her job. Looks like we will be heading for the beach for the rest of the summer - if the rain stops.

Gee, finally tracked down the website and now, after all that effort, it's time to water the sunflowers (planted today!!). Bit late but should still reach the normal 20 feet!! Got the PEECEE's BUT, I thought I was special getting the teddy bear one!! Now I find you've sent it to Cath'n'Phil too!! Maybe the washing machine might just be broken as you're passing!!
