In December 1996 I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro via the Machame route. I climbed four days, and decended two days via the Marangu route. I was accompanied by a guide named Joshua, a cook and two porters. The Machame trail is not frequented. There are no lodges, accomodation is in tents, and food for six days has to be carried all the way. Only a few water sources are to be found on the way.
