Attractions & Amusements in Alberta picture - Benjamin Holt began experimenting with crawler tracks in 1904. After testing his idea on six steam traction engines, the Holt company began commercial production of the steam-powered "Paddle Wheel Traction Engine" in 1906. Although Holt company shareholders were initially reluctant to allow the manufacture of gasoline powered crawler tractors, by 1908 they were rolling off Holt's assembly line in Stockton, California. In Alberta they were used primarily on large grain farms in the southern part of the province. 18,000 pounds 60 horsepower 4 cylinder. It could pull ten 14 inch plow bottoms.
