L to R: Diana Diehl, Robin Jackson, me
Sightseeing in Spain picture - This photo of me and two of my best friends from Penn State was taken in the Plaza Mayor of Ciudad Rodrigo on February 17, 1985, and yes, Robin hates having her picture taken. We went there to go to the Carnaval and to see the running of the bulls through the streets of the town. Situated in the region of Castilla y León and located 86 kms. from Salamanca, Ciudad Rodrigo was a fortified city that protected the Spanish frontier with Portugal and overlooked the main crossing site of the Águeda River, an old Roman bridge. Little has changed in Ciudad Rodrigo in the past 185 years. Its walls and fortifications are still intact and the city is a maze of narrow winding streets that would be familiar to the soldiers of the Light Division. The walls can be walked on or, if one wishes, the ditches and faussebraies are easily accessible.
