Saint Michel de Cuxa and Vineyard
The Pyrenees picture - During the Revolution, the National Assembly decreed the confiscation of church property. The monks of St. Michel were expelled from the monastery, which was sacked and demolished. Not until 1919 did a group of Cistercian monks from Fontfroide begin to restore the monastery. They lived here 'til 1965, when a small community of Benedictine monks from Montserrat (most famous of Catalonia's monasteries) came and are here still.
