The Dardanelles is a narrow strait of water linking the Aegean Sea with the Sea of Marmara. The port town of Eceabat on the southern end of the Gallipoli Peninsula is linked across the Dardanelles by a modern ferry service, transporting vehicles of all sizes to the city of Canakkale. High on the ridge in the distance above Eceabat, a large Turkish flag appears to be painted onto the hillside.
