Great to see your pix from 1985!
Having been to Gran Canaria and Tenerife, in 2003 and 2004, respectively (I have pix from both places on this site, as you know), it was wonderful to compare the scenery. Looks like Playa Jardin in Puerto Cruz is much more suitable for sun worship and swimming nowadays! BTW, you are a very good writer, and your articles are wonderfully informative. Thanks for taking the time and care to describe everything in such great detail!

We stopped by the Canary Islands in earaly January of 1957. The port city on the hills looked like paradise on earth. I never forget its lush beauty. Our destination was Caracas. The mountains in La Guaira loomed so high that the moring Sun was still behind it, at least that is how I remember it. It was exquisite tropical view. The ship was b rought in very slowly to the port. We landed on the Americas. I was then not quite 17 years old. I stayed ijn Caracas for 2 and a half years. I have wonderful memories. The new pictures of Caracas reveal a huge growth. The only buildings I can recongnize are the twin towers at the end of Avenida Bolivar. We lived in Sabana Grande near the El Recreo Church. From Las Palmas
El agua de abasto de Las Palmas es desagradable de beber puesto que es desalinizada del mar y posteriormente clorada por lo que me extraña que la culpa de su ´Moctezuma disease fuese del agua del grifo. Evidentemente el agua de consumo la consumimos embotellada.
