Me at the peak of El Teide on Tenerife
Views and Vistas in The Canary Islands picture - A cablecar takes visitors up to 3,600 meters; from there, you may climb to the peak by foot. The path to the peak is well within the capacity of any hillwalker without any scrambling being involved. It will be of interest to any walker who does not normally go this high, enjoys excellent views, or is interested in the novel experience of climbing on a volcano. The only difficulties are the lack of oxygen (50% of sea level value at summit) and summer heat. It was recommended that persons with a heart condition or who are pregnant should not attempt the climb.
