This view, taken within the National Park, is taken from an elevation above the tree line. Even if you rarely stir from the sea, you can't miss the majestic Mount Teide which dominates the island, separating the lush green north from the dry, rugged south. A trip to its summit is a magical experience and takes you from the Canarian pine forests of the lower slopes to the startling lunar landscapes above the clouds. Don't forget to take warm clothing the temperature at the top will be considerably cooler than on the beach! Equally impressive is the volcano's immense crater, with a circumference of approximately 80 kilometers. Another bit of trivia---the movie "One Million Years B.C.", featuring Raquel Welch, was filmed here, as were some scenes from the original "Planet of the Apes".
