In May 2003, 4 of us did a rafting trip on the San Juan River from Mexican Hat to Clay Hills Crossing. Because the river drops a gentle eight feet per mile and the water was low, there were few rapids. However, sand waves, a relatively rare phenomenon, were quite fun: they can suddenly build in the middle of a section of flat water, and then disappear just as quickly.
