Gorgeous!
Hi Denny: Great pix! I love the fact that you had a focus of interest on the non-touristy (i.e., celebrities, beaches, "plastic" people, Beverly Hills, wealth, etc.) side of L.A. like the downtown area. I also love that you focused on public transportation and actually used it. I take the Red Line every day to the Hollywood and Highland station since I work in the Hollywood and Highland complex directly above the station. Thanks for showing a side of my city that many locals have no familiarity with since they spend too much time in their cars and complaining.

Hi Denny, You pictures are nice, you did a nice tour and I understand you fell in love with the city, I did too and move there. I can tell you that if you go next time rent a car and go on the cost it's really nice and don't forget Venice Beach! I have live there for 5 years and finally decided to move outside CA, too much people and expensive to live and own a house but I always go back every years to see my friends. there are so much to see there now you need to go around and you will be surprise how this golden state have so much to offer!

A Great City to See
I just came back from a trip to Los Angeles. It was my first time to see this city in person and I enjoyed every minute of it. Los Angeles has such a wide choice of attractions (studio tours, theme parks, historic venues etc.) that it would take more than a year or two to see all of them. Los Angeles has something like 315 museums alone. I highly recommend to anyone looking for the perfect vacation getaway to see Los Angeles and stay a few weeks.

I took pics on vacations in Los Angeles and Vegas recently but your Los Angeles pics are just beautiful with the snowy mountains. The mountains had no snow when I was there last July. The pics I took in Vegas was of the strip just like yours but it was too hot to spend much time outdoors so I didn't get too many pics of the strip. My hats off to you for bearing the desert heat and taking such good pictures.

I'm From Los Angeles

I moved down to Diego County after I joined the navy but I take trips up to Los Angeles with my navy buddies, many of whom are also from Los Angeles and area. Thank you for taking the time to share your pictures of LA. I was born there in 1958 but my family moved down to Houston Texas when I was 15 and all of us kids just hated it but it got my dad a job in an oil refinery. None of us has been back to Los Angeles since then. Your pictures show me how much the city has grown and changed since we moved in 1973. Subways in Los Angeles? And all those tall buildings. We don't have anything down here in Texas that compares to all that and those pictures of the snow on the mountains are just beautiful. I want to come home.

Excellent!!!

Unbelievable that you lived in Los Angeles all those years (1969-72) and you have never seen snow on the San Gabriel's. Back in January 1969 there was record snowfall on Mt Baldy which set the snowfall record (up to that time) in Los Angeles county.

I was born in Los Angeles but I moved out to the east coast. Looking at your pictures helps ease some of my homesickness. I love the way you buck the trend and show the real Los Angeles, not just the beaches and mansions. I showed your pictures to friends who have never been to Los Angeles and they just love it. One of my friends who is also from Los Angeles but moved here more than 20 years ago said she didn't recognize the city since there was so many changes. Remarkable City is Correct Definition
Los Angeles is like a Jekell and Hyde, this city has many different disguises. We think of LA as a warm place to be in the winter and much of that is true but sometimes it turns cold as shown by your winter pic. Not a good thing for the unprepared who packed only walking shorts and suntan lotion. We also think of Los Angeles as a car city even though there is more than 400 miles of train service. You have proved that Los Angeles is not only mansions and the beach, stuff we see on TV, there is a real city beyond that. Yes Denny, a fantastic vacation of this remarkable city.

A Different City
I'm originally from Los Angeles, having moved down to Texas in the early 70's. I have seen the city develop over the years into a world class city, far different from the one I left 30 years ago, a depressed area with transients filling up Pershing Square and vacant buildings everywhere. I understand that the downtown now has many fine restaurants, the Staples Center, a subway system, 5 star hotels, a first class shopping area and nice places to live. I plan to take a trip soon to see first hand the changed city. Your pictures are worth a thousand complimentary words.

Great photos of LA
I'm from San Diego, and I often go to LA with friends to show them around. I have NEVER been able to take the kinds of photos you have taken! They are GREAT. I know where ALL those places are. You were using some wide angle shots, but all I have are 50mm-300mm lenses. I am definitely going to take more wide shots when I get to LA from now on. What speed film were you using? Did you use a tripod and long exposure for the Union Station shot?
