Golden Gate Park is a very interesting place, but it is better to go there during the day. there is a playground, a picnic area, a carousel and many other attractions.

If you enter the park through the Haight street entrance, there are always homeless people and other assorted folks. They can be intimidating at times and are not shy about panhandling. It is best to enter somewhere else in the park.
