In July 2005 we tramped 110 km from Nikkaluokta to Singi and then followed the Kungsleden to Abisko in the north. Kungsleden (Kings-trail) is Swedens longest tramping trail and stretches 450km between Hemavan in the south to Abisko in the north. We tramped the last part of it in the north, to enjoy the midnight-sun, see some rendeer and the amazing landscape created by massive glaciers during the ice-age. The trip was incredible and we can only recomend it. We planned to camp out most of the time, but due to very low temperatures (as low as 4^C) and very strong winds (up to 8 beaufort) we stayed three nights in cabins. A good alternative of camping out is to rely on cabins only, since this decreases the load. Furthermore, food could be purchased at every other hut at a good price, which makes it possible to save even more weight. We had everything for 10 days with us, since we did not know how fast we would make the trip. But the 12-15km etappes each day were a good distance, even with heavy backpacks. Having a tent and enough food with us also gave us the security to spend some extra days in the mountains in case of an emergency. Luckily everything went fine and we made the trip in the normal time.
