The City of Mirpur has a population of 354,400 and is situated 459 meters above sea-level. Mirpur is infact two cities; the Old City which had been around for hundreds of years and the New City which was made in the 1960s. The reason for the New City was because of construction of Mangala Dam. Therefore many of the people either moved away completly or to the New City, situated on Mangla Lake.
