Roti Canai
Local Specialties in Penang picture - Roti canai is a type of bread made from flour & ghee, originated from South India. Balls of dough are soaked in ghee, and are stretched in a flinging motion (be sure to watch how this is made - the showmanship itself is worth as much as the grub), then flattened to give it its layered texture before it is being pan-fried. It is available with different fillings - eggs, sardines, onions, or bananas. Roti canai can be eaten with dhal, curry, pickles or with just sugar.
