The communal bakery
Museums in Saskatchewan picture - (the building to the right of the brick prayer house) was brought to the heritage village from the village of Otradno. The large 'peche' (brick oven) is still used on special occasions for baking bread. A fire is made inside the oven to heat the brick, the ashes are then moved to the front & the bread placed in the back part of the oven to bake. About 35 loaves can be baked at one time. (There's nothing like the great taste of bread baked in these ovens.) Note the old coal and wood stove with a warming oven on top and a water heating reservoir on the right side. All of our Grandmothers had one of those ;o)
