Wow! Having spent 30 years in the AF and never having an assignment back in DC, I had forgotten so much. The comments on Ms. Horn--right on! I still see her at dances ensuring the boys and girls remained "well apart" during the slow dances. Guess there are those who never had a pleasant day in their life and she seemed to exemplify that condition--always seemed to have a scowl on her face. Ms. Stroup--another name I'd forgotten but remember fondly. Finally, along with Ms. Kilborne, I remember Mr. Peter D. Ford, the band director--great guy.

I graduated from Kimball Elementary School in 1956. I attended both the main buidling in my early years to the annex in the 5th & 6th grades. I also went to Sousa in the 7th grade, Kramer in the 8th & 9th grade, Anacostia in the 10th, then Mackin High School, and back to Ancostia until Graduation.

Kimball Elementary School
Kimball "Annex" was created to handle the overflow of students from Kimball Elementary School. I attended both 5th and 6th grades in the "Annex" which was located in one wing of the 3rd floor of Sousa Junior High. This 3rd floor wing was off-limits to the junior high school students. At the time this picture was taken, graduating students from Sousa JHS went to Anacostia HS. Within two years, the school assignment boundaries were changed, and a good portion of Sousa students were tranferred to Kramer JHS. Also, graduating Sousa students could no longer attend Anacostia; but, instead would have to attend Eastern HS.

By the time this 6th grade attended high school, all but 5 members (4 at Anacostia, 1 at Eastern) had left the S.E. area.

I have many fond memories of Anne Beers, Kramer and Anacostia, but also some not so fond. Mrs. Horn used to torture me mercilessly every month because she did not believe in menstrual cramps and used every means at her disposal to thwart what she saw as my faked acute illnesses (including vomiting, fainting and worse, but I'll stop here). Mrs. Horn patrolled the infirmary to make sure phonies like me were sent back to class with a good scolding; Mrs. Stroup knew a girl in pain and distress when she saw one, and always called me back. I've often thought of Mrs. Stroup with great affection and gratitude. Mrs. Horn is in quite another category in my memory book.

Sousa-AHS
Wish someone could provide a picture of the 1955 Sousa class, and the 1959 AHS graduating class (my years of graduation).Do recognize a number of people in the '56 Sousa class. Probably look the same today as they did then? I do.

Remembering fondly the days at AHS and Company B winning the citywide cadet competition. We practiced marching on the "flats." Anacostia was a friendly place to be then (1952-1955). Wonderding what happened to some of my classmates such as Jack Flaig.

I remember AHS and KJH
Yes, I remember the good ole days:) I had forgotten that we called Fairlawn the "flats". I lived 1 block from Kramer. Anybody remember Ms. Young, the gym teacher at KJH? Ohh...can't forget Ms. Horn either at AHS. I didn't like her at all.

Entertainer
I remember well the walk across the flats to school. I lived on Highview Place then and rode the A line bus every day to Anacostia High. I got out in '60. Ronnie Lutz and the guys with the Memories were and are still dear friends of mine. I remember Charlie Brown walking with me because we lived pretty close. I wish I could keep in touch with all my old chums. It's hard, though, now that I live in Las Vegas. I am an entertainer here. I do some shows with various keyboard players and bands. I sing all the 40's and some of the 50's stuff. I have a website on myspace now. It's myspace.com/sharonlynne so you can check it out and see if you remember me.

Elaine Kilbourne was a love object for me. I am still sorry I never told her about that affection after I had graduated and spent a few years in life (and college) experience.
