sanctuary showing stalls and gallery
Ottawa picture - The statues are designed to represent important personages in Judeo-Christian heritage. They were sculpted by renowned Canadian sculptor Philippe Hebert. There are 30 five-foot (1.5m) statues and dozens of smaller ones of patriarchs, prophets, apostles and evangelists. They are displayed within wooden niches sculpted by P. Parizeau and F. Rochon. There ae 52 mahogany "stalls" (seats) for religious dignitaries, with delicate woodwork sculpted by Parizeau in 1883-84. Their style was inspired by those of Auch cathedral in France. Amid the stalls on the opposite side of the sanctuary is the mahogany bishop's throne (cathedra), given as a gift to the parish's second bishop in 1874. It is surmounted by a 25 ft (9.6m) carved canopy.
