The Festes de Gracia is a Catalonian celebration boasting over a hundred years of tradition, held on the 15th of August each year to commemorate the Assumption. During the week of festivities that mark one of Barcelona's most important fiestas, this Mediterranean city explodes with fun, excitement, colour and fireworks.

Annually, the people of Gracia make a huge collective effort leading up to the festival, involving extensive preparations to decorate every inch of the district with innovative, imaginative designs. A highly regarded competition is held each year to honour the best and most elaborately decorated street, which fuels the intensity of the local designers to thrill the expectant audience, resulting in a spectacular array of sculptures, effigies, awnings and all manor of adornment.

The seven days of festivities and revelry are punctuated with an amazing amount of firecrackers, fireworks and bonfires with the regular appearances of giants, castellers; and traditional local demon-like characters, the correfocs. The incredible atmosphere during Festes de Gracia is similar to that of an open-air street party with live music performed each day in the main streets and squares, from the afternoon until well into the early hours of the next day. LES FOTOS... Tres temes: carrers guarnits, Hotel Cochambre i Castellers...

Joan Blanques de Dalt (entre Encarnació i Congost) s'ha adjudicat el primer premi d'honor del concurs de carrers amb el guarnit "Deixa't seduir". Està format per papers de seda de colors. El sostre el formen núvols il·luminats de diferents tonalitats i petites peces de plàstic transparent treballades amb escalfor. L'entrada sud del carrer la formen llargues palmeres de colors amb tubs flexibles i de colors freds (blaus, blancs, liles...) i l'entrada nord està formada per tons càlids (grocs, ocres, verds...) amb estructures fetes amb llistons de fustes. El carrer també ha guanyat el premi especial a la millor il·luminació i a la innovació.

Un dels altres triomfadors de la tarda ha estat el carrer Tordera que ha aconseguit el segon premi d'honor. Sota el títol "sardina", inspirat en un dels molts peixos que formen part de la fauna marina del Mediterrani. A l'entrada del carrer hi ha el cap del peix que s'ha construït amb centenars de CDs i a la sortida trobarem la cua confeccionada amb milers de palletes de refresc. Al mig del carrers hi ha l'espina central feta amb escuma, paper i garrafes d'aigua. Les escames han estat el.laborades amb paper d'alumini i les espines amb ampolles de plàstic. El carrer també ha guanyat el premi especial al millor detall artístic.

El carrer Mozart enguany ha quedat tercer premi d'honor amb un carrer dedicat als insectes i anomenat "Mozaaaaaart". Està dedicat als insectes i animals simpàtics; es tracta d'un mini zoològic. El motiu central es una gran teranyina i un formiguer; el sostre i als laterals es ple d'insectes. Els materials utilitzats han estat tela de galliner, cordes, paper pinotxo, entre d'altres i com a reutilitzats els papers de diari, cartrons, ampolles, tubs de tela... El carrer també ha guanyat el premi especial al millor sostre.
