In 1812, Napoleon triumphantly marched his Grand Army into the Kremlin through this gate. A month later, he marched them out again, when the Russians set fire to the city. At left is the Palace of the Congresses, built by Premier Nikita Khruschev in 1961 to host Communist Party congresses. The Kremlin&#39;s only modern building, the Palace now stages ballets, operas, and rock concerts. </div></nolayer></noembed>
