Crowning the Bolshoi
Russia picture - Four great horses plunge over the pediment of Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre, home to one of the oldest and most famous ballet companies in the world. Originally built in 1805, it was rebuilt in 1825 and again in 1856. The Neo-Classical pediment dates from 1856, depicting a pair of angels carrying the lyre of Apollo, Greek god of music and light. The horses, part of the original 1805 building, pull Apollo's chariot.
