Kashgar is a remote desert oasis town. if you want to find it on a map, look about as far west as you can on a map of china, and it should be there near pakistan and kirghizstan.
The city is about as old as the mud of which the old city walls and buildings are made. Marco Polo supposedly stopped here en route to China, and the city was ancient then too having been around for about a thousand years before his arrival.
