Ladakh can be thought as treeless, snow-capped mountains, high altitude desert, parched by the rarefied dryness of the atmosphere. The calmness of the region gives a feeling of being transported to some celestial panorama far removed from earth. Ladakh is bounded by two of the world's mightiest mountain ranges, the Great Himalayas and the Karakoram; it lies athwart two other, the Ladakh range and the Zanskar range.
