Half-Dome from the Valley
Yosemite picture - Half-Dome, at 8,842 feet, rises 4,733 feet above its base and some 4,842 feet above the valley floor. A glacier cut through a large granite slab, forming the valley and creating and sculpting the granite peaks and domes, while coming within five hundred feet of Half-Dome's summit. Half-Dome, it seems, never had another half of a dome.
